  • King was born on Jan. 15, 1929. The holiday is observed on the third Monday in January.
  • An ordained Baptist minister, King was a leader in the Civil Rights
  • Movement of the 1950s and '60s and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He was assassinated in April 1968.
